My first week of Artsy Snail Mail

Hi there space world!! Hopefully you are having a wonderful evening and enjoying the warmth as most of the United States is covered in snow, or getting ready to be. This winter has been one of the harshest winters that I can recall in years. I feel like I have been stuck inside for far too long and cabin fever is starting to drive me insane. That is part of the reason I began this little adventure into the Mail Art world.

I feel like being cooped up with no interaction has drained me of what little oomph of creativity that I had. I got to were I just didn't want to go into my studio and work because I was so bored of looking at any of my house. I had also began to get very bummed because of lack of human interaction. It was just driving me nuts.

Simple solution, talk to people. Greater solution, share creativity with someone else who is also suffering from this harsh winter too. Luckily I know many crafty girls who enjoyed the idea of Mail Art.

The first surprise I received was this beautiful hand stamped card from my cousin. I must admit, I love the pattern on the front. It reminds me of the awesome print on a wall in a historical Victorian home. Do you agree? I just love that stamp and she did a very good job placing it center of the card. I would have failed at that because, honestly, I am clumsy.

The inside was just as adorable. It had this cute little girl stamped in it and the sign she is holding says it all. "A friend like you lets me be me." I believe that is an awesome saying. A friend who lets you be you is hard to come by. Those friends are true friends. Hold on to them no matter what.

I can happily say that, over all, my cousin did an awesome job! I love it. It suits my personality greatly and inspired me in very creative ways. She has fueled my need to begin creating rubber stamps again. I will be adding some into future blog posts.

I loved her card so much that I took my own talents and went to work to make her a little card. I am trying to learn how to watercolor paint and thought this would be the perfect time to make a watercolor card. I think it turned out pretty well. On the inside, I just wrote her a little note about how I painted flowers in anticipation for spring. Please spring, HURRY UP!!!

My second wonderful surprise was from my penpal in Virginia. She has been doing this far longer than me and she writes wonderful letters. If you notice the little yellow envelope that says "Mail Tag ?s", you may be thrilled to know that it was a tiny card in there with a cupcake on the front. She loves cupcakes as much as I do. It said, "Life is always better with sprinkles!" I just absolutely loved it! I will try to get a picture of it up in the next blog post. :D

This is the letter I wrote back to her. I dug out some old "LOVE" stationary in the celebration of Valentine's Day. I didn't realize how old it was until I looked at the date on the paper and the stamp price on the swan stamp. A stamp was 32 cents in 1997. I think I may hoard way too much!? Either way, it served it's purpose for now. I added a few stamps and it will be reaching it's destination in the next week. Whoo hoo. :)

Anywho, I hope you enjoyed my travels into Snail Mail this week. I also hope you return to see my future endeavors. Until then, stay warm in this nasty weather and stay creative. Have an awesome day!
